At this year’s Compamed, the primary focus of SÜDPACK Medica’s presentation will be a tubular film made from the bio-based polymer PLA as an alternative to cellulose-based films or comparable films with high water vapor permeability. Not only this, but specialist visitors who come to Stand H17 in Hall 8b will be able to inform themselves on the wide range of conventional and sustainable coextruded rigid and flexible films for very different applications in the medical and pharmaceutical packaging sector.
The development of sustainable film solutions is amongst the key strategic initiatives for the SÜDPACK Group. Over the past years, numerous sustainable products have been successfully launched onto the market for various applications.
Last year, SÜDPACK Medica provided a significant impulse for the pharmaceuticals industry with its PP-based thermoforming film for the manufacture of blister packaging for tablets and other pharmaceutical solids applications, and this year the company is promoting a PLA tubular film for diagnostic applications in Düsseldorf. The optimized high-performance film represents an alternative to cellulose-based films such as cellophane or comparable films with high water vapor permeability. The material is based on renewable raw materials and can be composted industrially in accordance with DIN EN 13432. Designed in particular for demanding diagnostic flow pack applications for sterile barrier systems, the film features good mechanical properties as well as excellent oxygen and water vapor permeability. Gamma sterilization is possible without visual impairments. Like all SÜDPACK products, this film can be easily and safely processed even in case of high output quantities. Above all, however, its strengths lie in the use of renewable raw materials with a reduced CO2 footprint – thus supporting current objectives for climate and environmental protection.
As one of the pioneering manufacturers of plastic-based packaging solutions for sterile goods, and as tried and tested partners for the global medical technology, pharmaceutical and diagnostics industries, SÜDPACK Medica is also a primary address at the Compamed if you’re looking for blister applications. For example, the company’s PP film, available on the market since 2021, can be viewed in Düsseldorf. The material offers optimum barrier properties and is characterized by good processability on existing packaging lines. This makes it possible to produce recyclable blister packaging which achieves outstanding results in terms of packaging safety and efficiency.
In addition to this, SÜDPACK Medica will also be presenting other coextruded soft and rigid films, which can be used as base and lidding films for the production of sterilizable thermoformed packaging and which can be equipped with a wide range of functionalities as appropriate for the product to be packaged.
