On November 15, 2024, SÜDPACK officially became one of 55 companies to voluntarily sign the Climate Protection Agreement of the State of Baden-Württemberg. This joint initiative by the Ministry for the Environment, Climate and the Energy Sector of Baden-Württemberg and environmentally conscious companies aims to establish Germany as a leader in climate protection. Alliance partners commit to achieving carbon neutrality in the medium to long term, and to providing annual reports on their greenhouse gas emissions over an initial 10-year period.
SÜDPACK has already set an ambitious goal in accordance with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and its own Sustainability Strategy: to reduce its green-house gas emissions in Scope 1&2 and Scope 3.1 by at least 32% by 2030, compared to the baseline year 2021. This corresponds to 128,958 tons of CO2e. The ultimate vision? NET ZERO!
To achieve this goal, the film manufacturer is actively working to reduce its natural gas consumption and gradually replace it with biogas and, where possible, biome-thane. Progress is also being made in the use of renewable energy: Starting in 2025, all additional European sites, alongside SÜDPACK’s German locations, will be powered by climate-friendly electricity. The introduction of the ISO 50001 energy management system is another effective tool for optimizing energy consumption and unlocking further potential.
The most significant lever, however, lies in the products themselves. As a leading supplier in the film market, the industry frontrunner has developed a range of more sustainable, lower-CO2 product lines that serve as fully viable alternatives to conventional material structures – and this portfolio continues to expand.
